At its launch in 2004 the new BMW 1 Series five-door hatchback was unique. It was the only rear-wheel-drive car in the compact segment of the modern era. Its focus? Uncompromised driving dynamics that remain unsurpassed for a brand new customer. The range has since expanded to include a three-door hatchback and a two-door Coupé. On 5 April 2008, the 1 Series family will be completed with the launch of the first premium compact convertible by BMW for three decades.

The BMW 1 Series range is also the perfect showcase for BMW's EfficientDynamics technology and the new convertible continues that theme. Blending BMW's renowned driving dynamics and performance with class-leading economy and emissions, the BMW 1 Series Convertible delivers driver enjoyment and low running costs in equal measure.

The range is initially available as BMW 120i and 125i Convertible models, but will be joined a few weeks later by three other engine derivatives, the 118i, 120d and 135i. Two Hams Hall derived four-cylinder powerplants (118i and 120i) offer an affordable way into BMW 1 Series Convertible ownership, while the 120d four-cylinder diesel engine is the most economical in the range. Two six-cylinder engines, powering the 125i and 135i, balance performance and refinement to offer the best in open-air driving dynamics. The 218hp engine in the 125i Convertible is a first for the 1 Series model range. The 306hp engine in the 135i is the current International Engine of the Year holder and powers the range flagship.

The new mid-life refresh of the fifth generation BMW 3-Series is set to maintain BMW as the number one manufacturer of premium cars. With its unsurpassed driving dynamics, executive class refinement and technological innovation, the BMW 3-Series has defined the compact executive segment since the first E21 model appeared in 1977. Its dominance is so strong that the compact executive segment has long been referred to as the BMW 3-Series class by its competitors. And this dominance makes the launch of any new BMW 3-Series an important event in the calendar of the car-buying public and motoring commentators alike.

The BMW 3-Series might lead the pack but BMW has never lost sight of its customers and their expectations. The BMW 3-Series starts at £21,475 OTR for a 318i ES Saloon and £22,665 OTR for a 318i ES Touring, and rises to the 335i and 335d Tourings priced at £36,170 OTR and £38,250 OTR respectively. This range provides aspirational buyers, each with differing requirements, the opportunity to comfortably enter, or stay with, BMW 3-Series ownership. For those wanting the ultimate in BMW 3-Series ownership, of course, the alphabet stops at M!

BMW 335d BluePerformance and the BMW X5 xDrive35d BluePerformance mark the entering of a new era in the company's mission to deliver ultimate driving machines that combine superior performance with exemplary fuel economy, as the BMW Group debuted two vehicle models equipped with the BMW Advanced Diesel with BluePerformance at the 2008 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit.

Successfully meeting the strict exhaust emissions requirements of the North American automobile market, BMW Advanced Diesel - slated to hit US roadways in November 2008 - will be available in all 50 states. The wide availability of these vehicles marks a significant milestone in the BMW EfficientDynamics strategy, which seeks to offer customers in automobile markets around the world maximum driving pleasure with minimum fuel consumption and emissions.

BMW Advanced Diesel technology is being introduced into the US market in the form of the 3.0-liter inline-six featuring Variable Twin Turbo Technology - an engine widely acknowledged as the unchallenged benchmark for sporting performance, motoring refinement and superior efficiency in other markets around the world. At the 2008 NAIAS, BMW is presenting this 265-hp high-performance diesel engine in both the BMW X5 xDrive35d and the BMW 335d. To ensure full compliance with the demanding emission standards in California and other US states, BMW uses SCR technology to reduce nitric oxides (NOX), enabling nationwide introduction of BMW Advanced Diesel with BluePerformance as a 50-state model (BIN5).

The BMW 5-Series Gran Turismo Concept is the production-based rendition of the Progressive Activity Sedan (PAS) in the upper midrange segment, offering an outlook at the extension of the BMW 5-Series by a new, additional vehicle concept. For the first time in the automobile market, this concept car combines the looks and appearance of a prestigious Sedan, a modern Sports Activity Vehicle, and a classic Gran Turismo. Indeed, perhaps the most outstanding feature of the BMW 5-Series Gran Turismo Concept is this unprecedented combination of stylish elegance, luxurious comfort, and impressive diversity.
